Hello from Hong Kong.
This is my current vista (from my room) -

You may notice the lovely park outside, which I haven't visited. It's so far away (I'm so high up) it may as well be in another suburb. Also, going outside makes me cry, or makes my eyeballs sweat or something... it is sooooooooo soooooo hot. But in a good way really, I'm enjoying the heat... from my air conditioned luxury hotel room. lol.

I know poetry can be a bit dorky, but sometimes it's just awesome and amazing.

I spoke to Sam Hunt earlier in the year, and this bit was about where his greatest work comes from.

It was on The Knowledge a week ago last friday, and you can download it and the other podcasts here

He was made a companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit as part of the Queens Birthday Honors. This is the NZ Herald article.

One of his 'top draw' poems IMO -

Hot Water Bottle Baby Blues

All that I love alive I've killed,
Nothing to save now, less to lose,
These nights I suffer form the cold hot water bottle baby blues

An afternoon I left ye tucked
Trembling like a rained down bird beneath a bank,
And three times tacked my way upstream,
But soon was bored,

I raced the log back down the stream,
Until still underneath the bank I found you crouched,
It was no dream, you asked me for a piggy back,

Clutching lightly as a bird,
Warm heart beating on my back, you grinned
Waving your arms round as I bowed,
And just like that we left the ground,

We flew all night until I could,
Fly no more,
And falling felt you lose your warmth,
I woke up with the cold hot water bottle baby blues.

I'm not sure what book that was originally published in, but it's in the best of section of his most recent collection of poems called Doubtless.

This is him performing the poem it in the early 80's, from the well and truly out of print LP "Bottle to Battle to Death".

It was the Juice TV awards last night. And Eddie's band won! Yay.
Makes me so happy! yayayayayayayay.
We used to to play at a bar (D-Bar) from 1am till 4am on Wednesdays and Thursdays. It was the sort of place where the bar girl gets beaten up and all the lights in the bar get smashed with a bar stool. And fights outside end with a persons head through the telephone box. (all of which happened)
They were exciting times.

Bonnie and I went on a little road trip to visit some of his family in Paraparaumu.

That night we went to Wellington and I played with Toad.
I got a video of the song I dont play in.
